The monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants, of which only the church and the cloister are visible, is one of the most notable examples of Catalan Romanesque. The date of its foundation is not known, but it already existed in the first half of the 10th century. The pre-Romanesque monastery is almost nothing, although remains of an earlier building are preserved. The construction of the current building began in the first half of the 12th century, around 1131, date in which Ramon Berenguer the Great bequeathed an important donation to pay for the works. At the end of this century the cloister had to be finished.
\nThe church is of basilical plan, with three naves separated by pilasters that support semicircular arches, and asymmetric arms cruise, which gives great singularity to the building.
\nThe cloister was made starting with the nave closest to the church. It has a rectangular plan and small dimensions. The four galleries are covered by quarter circle turns. The angles that frame the small central courtyard are formed by pillars and the colonnade between them is double, with a group of five columns in the center of each side.
