On ne conna\u00eet pas la date de sa fondation, mais il existait d\u00e9j\u00e0 dans la premi\u00e8re moiti\u00e9 du s. X. Du monast\u00e8re pr\u00e9roman il ne reste presque rien, bien que des restes d\u2019un b\u00e2timent ant\u00e9rieur soient conserv\u00e9s. La construction de l\u2019\u00e9difice actuel commen\u00e7a dans la premi\u00e8re moiti\u00e9 du XIIe si\u00e8cle, vers 1131, date \u00e0 laquelle Ramon Berenguer le Grand l\u00e9gua un important don pour financer les travaux. \u00c0 la fin de ce si\u00e8cle, le clo\u00eetre devait \u00eatre achev\u00e9.<br \/>\nL\u2019\u00e9glise est de plan basilical, avec trois nefs s\u00e9par\u00e9es par des pilastres soutenant des arcs semi-circulaires, et un transept \u00e0 bras asym\u00e9triques, ce qui donne une grande singularit\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9difice.<br \/>\nLe clo\u00eetre a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9 \u00e0 partir de la nef la plus proche de l\u2019\u00e9glise. Il est de plan rectangulaire et de petites dimensions. Les quatre galeries sont couvertes par des tours de quart de cercle.
