Monestir de Sant Daniel

Monestir de Sant Daniel

Carrer de les Monges, 2, 17007 Girona
Maximmum:

Discover the Monastery of San Daniel on guided tours: the church, the cloister, the old wine cellar, the fire pit…they are spaces that we use as a starting point to talk about monastic life, the history and art of the first thousand years of the monastery.
The visits are aimed at the general public, but they also offer specific visits for educational centers.
The monastery is located in the Sant Daniel valley, east of the city of Girona.
A thousand years of continued presence of the community in the valley carries a legacy that gives them strength to think about the second millennium and they do so by emphasizing what defines us: prayer, work and Benedictine welcome.
The monastery archive preserves two scrolls that are considered the founding documents of the monastery. The first, dated June 18, 1015, is the deed of sale of the allodium of Sant Daniel that Bishop Pere Rotger made to Ermesenda and Ramon Borrell
The second document, which dates from March 15, 1018, Ermesenda, makes a donation of all the alodies that she owned throughout the county of Girona by personal purchase or by donation from her late husband.
Since then the monastic life has been lived according to the rule of Sant Benet and it still continues. It is the only female Benedictine community in Catalonia that resides in the same place where it was born.
