The Cinema Museum is a permanent, non-profit institution, open to the public as a space for the scientific, cultural and recreational participation of citizens, and at the service of society and its development. It is located in a building of the late nineteenth century, known as Casa de les Aigües because it had been the headquarters of the city’s water company. This building is located between Carrer del Perill, Carrer de la Sèquia and Plaça de Santa Susanna del Mercadal.
The property has about 2,500 square meters of useful area, spread over three floors and a mezzanine. Two lifts facilitate movement through the building and remove architectural barriers for those with reduced mobility.
The Museum was inaugurated in Girona on April 8, 1998, being the first of its specialty in Spain, comparable in terms of the quality of the collection and the exhibition project with the main European film museums. Its aim is to become a centre for revitalising the world of cinema and visual spectacles, based on a continuous programme of activities and services aimed at a very wide potential audience, ensuring their local recognition, national and international.
